Rock Discovery Center

The Rock Discovery Center at Sterling Hill provides children with a great introduction into geology. Guides discuss and educate the children on the three different rock types. Then guides focus on six different rocks in particular and how they were formed as well as why they are important to us today. Each participant receives their own collecting box and after the presentation get to collect the rocks discussed, in a large outdoor area, to take home with them. This activity takes about thirty minutes to complete. Rock Discovery is great add-on to the tour for private groups, especially schools.

Fossil Discovery Center

FOSSIL DISCOVERY IS TEMPORALILY CLOSED

The Fossil Discovery Center is a great hands-on introduction to fossils and the world of paleontology. Guides discuss the basics of fossils and then talk about the specific ones that children may find. After the presentation, children get to dig for various types of fossils in a large, sanded area and take six specimens home with them. This activity takes about thirty minutes to complete. Fossil Discovery can be added on to smaller private group tours such as birthday parties and scout groups. The Fossil Discovery Center is also open to the general public at specific times/days which can be seen below.
