Privacy Policy

Children's Privacy Policy

This web site has three main sections: for teachers (“EDUCATORS”), for parents (“FAMILIES”), and for children (“KIDS”). The KIDS section of the site does not collect any personally identifying information from its visitors, nor is there a link to the “Contact Us” page from the KIDS section of our site. Additionally, the “Contact Us” page reminds children under 13 that they are not to contact us without permission of their teacher or parent.

Although most nonprofit organizations, such as the Sterling Hill Mining Museum, are not subject to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Federal Trade Commission’s Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule, we take children’s privacy seriously and have read the Rule thoroughly. Because we do not collect personally identifying information from children under 13, we are not subject to the Rule.

Your privacy is important to the Sterling Hill Institute of Geosciences. Please take the time to read our policy regarding visitors who are age 13 and older. If you, your students, or members of your family are under 13, please take the time to review our Children’s Privacy Policy.

When you browse, read or download information

Visitors are not required to provide any information prior to or during use in order to fully access the content of our site. When you read or download from our site, we do not collect any personally identifying information about you. However, in order to serve our visitors better, we do collect statistics about visitors to each section of our site. These data includes the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your host server (usually your Internet Service Provider), what browser you used, and the date and time of your visit. We review these data in aggregate form and cannot use such information to identify you or allow us or anyone else to contact you as a result of your visit to our Web site

When you send us e-mail

Electronic mail messages often contain personally identifying information about the sender (such as name, postal address, and telephone numbers). We may store such information in order to respond to your request or otherwise resolve the subject of your e-mail. If you ask to be informed of updates and the latest information from the Sterling Hill Institute of Geosciences, we will add you to our mailing list.

When you submit a form

Our site contains web forms (for comments, inquiries, or surveys) that you may choose to fill out and submit to us. When you link from our site to sites outside Sterling Hill

The Sterling Hill Institute of Geosciences has links to other web sites that are part of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum. It also has links to web sites outside the museum that we believe may be of interest to you. When you link to one of the Sterling Hill sites, the privacy policy given here applies in full to those sites as well. When instead you link to a site outside our museum, the Sterling Hill Institute of Geosciences cannot control their collection of personal information and this privacy policy will not apply.
